The South Durban community Environmental
Alliance (SDCEA) would like to invite you to a nuclear meeting on the 29th
September 2017 at the TLC Community Hall at 2pm. The purpose of this meeting is to educate, empower and mobilise
community members on the proposed nuclear energy build as contemplated by the
government and Eskom. Citizens need to understand that they have the power to
refuse the nuclear energy fleet proposed to be built in South Africa.
Sustainable energy should be the main focus in this country not unsustainable
and dangerous energy.
SDCEA
together with other organisations has been hosting meeting and bringing
international anti-nuclear speakers as far back as 2015. SDCEA recently hosted
two anti-nuclear activists from Russia and the U.S. They shared their
experience fighting nuclear power and talk about the situation in their countries
and across the world. Various countries have been phasing out nuclear energy.
These activists shared why people are resisting nuclear power and how they
manage to successfully stop the construction of nuclear reactors. This too is
possible for South Africa. We have the power to say No to nuclear energy.
Recently Earthlife Africa Johannesburg and
SAFCEI challenged the government’s nuclear deals with Russia, the U.S. and
South Korea. In April 2017 judgement was delivered in the High Court and these deals
were set aside and declared unlawful and unconstitutional. This was a major
victory for the anti-nuclear campaign in South Africa.
We kindly
ask you to join us as we discuss the energy future of South Africa.
