Fishermen’s walk
The KZN Subsistence fishermen’s forum
representing 12 000 subsistence fishermen, together with the South Durban
Community Environmental Alliance, will be holding a fisherman’s walk on
Durban’s Promenade on the 8th of July 2017 at 8am. The start of the
walk will be from Snake park pier, ending at North Pier. The walk will be
raising awareness of the Japanese,
Chinese and other international trawlers being allowed, by our government, to
fish in our waters during the winter months thereby depriving our local
fishermen of sardines and shad which are in abundance at this time. We will
also report back on our successful meeting with TRANSNET. Fishermen permit
application will be given at the meeting.
