Electricity
Crisis Meeting
15 June 2015. Wentworth, South Africa. Are you
struggling to afford electricity? Have you experienced light out while
preparing dinner? Or during the morning when getting ready for work? This
electricity crisis we are faced with is becoming more and more impossible to
deal with. The high tariff increases, lack of consultation, load shedding, etc.
are becoming an everyday struggle of the ordinary people of our beloved city
and country at large. The South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA)
will be hosting an Electricity crisis meeting on the 17th June 2015
at Austerville Hall, from 6pm to 8pm. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss
the burning electricity issues we are faced with. The communities of south
Durban area will also be conveying their demands to the National energy
regulator [NERSA] .These are some of the demands:
- NERSA do not approve the additional 12.5% tariff increases requested by Eskom
- Municipalities introduce discounts on electricity rates for pensioners (As they do for rates)
- Government departments responsible for energy must role out a comprehensive Renewable Energy plan for its citizens .
- Equitably share the load-shedding of ALL mainly residential area across the good times (day and midnight – 5am) and the bad times (4-10pm &5-8am)

affecting everyone.
