Logistic park at the Clairwood Racecourse Site and a mention of a nuclear plant on the Old Durban International Airport Site.... What's next for South Durban?

Logistics park at the Clairwood Racecourse Site and now a mention of a nuclear plant on the old Durban International Airport Site…what’s next for South Durban?

The Clairwood Racecourse Action Committee (CRAC) will be hosting a mass community meeting to discuss the developments that have been proposed for South Durban and the ramifications these developments will have on the residents of South Durban and beyond.

What was once a beautiful Racecourse and greenspace is now a sad piece of land intended to be a logistics park which will cause havoc and destroy not only the environment and biodiversity but also the lives of the residents and commuters that use these roads daily. School kids will be bullied out by gigantic trucks and others stuck in traffic catering for these monsters on the roads.

Adding on to more unsightly development is the proposal by National Government that has identified the old Durban international airport site for the placement for one of the 8 nuclear plants. Considering the dangers of this type of development and planning to locate it in an already polluted and heavily risked community is a direct insult to the health and well-being of South Durban Residents.

These horrific developments that plan to operate in a community that is already vulnerable to health and safety risks will only increase the trucks on our roads threatening the lives of our friends, families and kids, destroy the peace, beautiful biodiversity and sense of community and add to the pollution, asthma and cancer rates.
This meeting is intended to formulate a program of community action and develop solidarity with communities in South Africa, on the continent and the world over in order to put a stop to the dangerous and hazardous development proposals by our Government and private developers all in their pursuit of large profits.

The community of South Durban and beyond are invited to attend this meeting and participate in discussing the concerns and action plans on how the community will deal with these issues that place danger at our doorsteps. This is unacceptable and the people of South Durban have come together to stop these ghastly developments.

The meeting details are as follows:
Date: 16 August 2015
Time: 2:00 pm
Venue: Merebank Community Centre Hall (On Krishna Rabilal Road)
