Picket for the preservation of the Clairwood Racecourse Property at Greyville Racecourse on Durban July

Picket for the Preservation of the Clairwood Racecourse Property at Greyville Racecourse on Durban July

Save our Green Lung

Gold Circle has a lot to answer in regards to the sale of the Clairwood racecourse our only green lung in pursuit of greed before people. The executive of Gold Circle made deals without any consultation and concerns of how this sale would affect the lives of the people of south Durban who have for years supported horse racing and the use of the Clairwood Racecourse. This is a slap in the face of the people who have spent their hard earned money to enjoy the entertainment of horse racing for many years and thereby making many millionaires even richer.

The Clairwood Racecourse Action Committee will be hosting a picket at the Greyville Racecourse to represent the concerns of the community about the development of the Clairwood Racecourse property into a logistics and trucking facility. The development of the property will increase the amount of trucks in the area to 2,000 per hour, increasing the emissions and the threat of accidents too many who commute daily on these roads, especially school going kids from various areas who walk through these areas and gather for their transport.

The motive to picket at the Greyville Racecourse amongst many other are raising awareness of the issue and highlighting the concerns of the community, it is to also  target Gold Circle who sold the property to Capital Property Fund who plan on turning the site into a logistics park catering for port related activities. We want to express our disappointment and anger to Gold Circle and also to bring this issue to the attention of a broader audience.

The picket details are as follows:

Date: 4 July 2015

Time: 10:00 am

Venue: Greyville Racecourse Main Entrance (150 Avondale Rd, Greyville Durban)
